Indicator: 41
- Schools With Career Preparation Learning Results Standard

Why This Is Important
Career preparation helps students develop not only specific
skills, but also the ability to handle change. In a world of work,
being a “good worker” is no longer an assurance of continued
employment. Career preparation needs to serve students in several
ways: to acquire basic skills and attitudes to enter work, to help
them be effective career managers, and to be knowledgeable about
their talents and weaknesses. Career preparation implementation is
underway at the state and local level. The Department of Education
is tracking this progress and has initial data that indicates
schools are beginning to implement Career Preparation Standards.
However, there is no data available that describes the status of the
implementation of the Career Preparation Learning Results Standards
for all Maine schools. Career Preparation is part of Maine’s
Learning Results for all schools, and it is expected that it
will be fully implemented by the 2009-2010 school year.
